What is carbon concrete?

Innovative construction solutions for a sustainable future

The construction industry is facing major challenges: increasing demands for sustainability, durability, and efficiency require new approaches and innovative materials. At the same time, costs must be optimized and construction times shortened without compromising on quality.

In this dynamic environment, we offer pioneering solutions that revolutionize traditional construction methods. Our product portfolio includes state-of-the-art non-metallic reinforcements that not only significantly extend the service life of structures but also greatly reduce their environmental footprint. As one of the world’s leading companies in the field of fiber-reinforced composites, CG TEC develops and manufactures innovative high-tech composite solutions that meet these demands.

With the introduction of the first general guideline for non-metallic reinforcements in January 2024 by the German Committee for Reinforced Concrete (DAfStb), this technology has now officially entered construction practice. This marks the beginning of a new era in the construction industry, where innovations such as our products will play a key role. The guideline significantly simplifies the use of non-metallic reinforcements and removes previous bureaucratic obstacles.

Discover on this page how our advanced building materials can take your projects – from new construction to renovation – to the next level. Together, we are shaping the future of construction: sustainable, efficient, and future-proof.

What are non-metallic reinforcements in construction?

Non-metallic reinforcements replace steel with high-strength fiber-reinforced composites such as Carbon (CFK)fiberglass or basalt fiber. They are made of:

  • Corrosion-resistant high-performance fibers (carbon, glass, basalt)
  • Polymer-bonded mats, rods, or grids
  • Textile structures for customized reinforcement solutions

Advantages of GFRP reinforcements compared to traditional steel reinforcement

The use of GFRP reinforcements as an alternative to reinforcing steel and rebar offers numerous advantages:

Corrosion resistance

Unlike steel reinforcement, GFRP materials are virtually immune to corrosion. This significantly increases the service life of structures and reduces maintenance costs.

Weight reduction

GFRP reinforcements are significantly lighter than steel reinforcements. This makes transport and installation easier and enables more slender structures.

High tensile strength

GFRP materials surpass steel in terms of specific tensile strength, opening up new possibilities in construction.

Electrical and magnetic neutrality

GFRP reinforcements are non-conductive and do not affect electromagnetic fields, making them ideal for special applications such as MRI rooms in hospitals.

Thermal properties

GFRP materials have a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than steel, resulting in improved thermal stability of structures.

Sustainability

Reduced concrete requirement due to the elimination of minimum cover (up to 80% material savings).

PRODUCTS

MG 2711

CG TEC is Germany’s and Europe’s technology leader for carbon and glass fiber round profiles. Since 1996, we have been producing high-quality tubes, rods, plates, and components. Our range of services extends from specialized custom-made products to series production.

Hitexbau

Hitexbau develops and produces reinforcement meshes made of carbon, basalt, and glass with a capacity of approximately 2 million m² per plant per year. Through an innovative, fully automated process, we are able to manufacture meshes up to 3.40 m wide and of unlimited length (rolled or as panels) for the construction industry. The reinforced components are lightweight, versatile, easy to process, environmentally friendly, and sustainable.

Reference projects and success stories

CG TEC and rothycon: A strong partnership

rothycon: More than just non-metallic reinforcement
rothycon brings far more than expertise in concrete reinforcement with non-metallic materials to this partnership. The company offers comprehensive support in project management, process optimization, automation, and business consulting. In addition, rothycon handles the development and management of testing programs and certifications – a decisive advantage for customers who want to implement new technologies quickly and efficiently.

Köhler Beton / Deutsche Bahn

CG TEC has gained another important customer for the large-scale use of TEC BAR with Klaus Köhler Beton- und Fertigteilwerk GmbH. Köhler Beton is already successfully using TEC BAR in the production of cable channel covers for concrete cable ducts of Deutsche Bahn AG. To ensure the durability and performance of TEC BAR for this specific application, extensive testing and development were carried out. The additional benefits in handling and CO₂ balance have proven to be significant in practice.

Renovation with substance: Berlin University of the Arts

Tradition meets innovation – heritage-compliant renovation with carbon reinforcement

The building of the Berlin University of the Arts, constructed in the 1960s, is undergoing extensive renovation – with the goal of meeting monument preservation requirements while at the same time achieving the highest energy standards. The focus is on the innovative use of carbon reinforcement by Hitexbau.
